The guided tour of the Museum and Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela focuses on the history of the Cathedral and the tomb of the Apostle, the heart of the city that brings his name.
During the visit, we will see the evolution of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela over the centuries, we will learn about the importance of the discovery of the tomb of Santiago and we will understand how it affected all of Europe in the Middle Ages. In addition, we will see relics, treasures andarchaeological remains.

The guided tour of the Museum and Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela focuses on the history of the Cathedral and the tomb of the Apostle, the heart of the city that brings his name. During the visit, we will see the evolution of the Cathedral over the centuries, we will know the importance of the discovery of the tomb of Santiago and we will understand how it affected all of Europe in the Middle Ages.
The first part of the guided tour begins at the Cathedral Museum, where we will tour its four floors in ascending order. The first floor stands out for its archaeological rooms. The second floor houses the Chapter House and the library where a replica of the famous and valuable Codex Calixtinus is kept. On the third floor is the balcony that overlooks the Plaza del Obradoiro, as well as the cloister and the cemetery. Last but not least, we will reach the fourth floor, which contains the complete collection of the cathedral’s precious tapestries .
The second part of the tour takes us inside the Cathedral. We will talk about the Portico of Glory and we will tour the transepts of the temple. On the way we will see its numerous interior chapels, the botafumeiro, the baroque organs, the crypt of the Apostle and we will see the image of the Apostle located in the High Altar.
