Free walking tour of the center of Vigo in which we will walk through the pedestrian streets of the old part of the city, as well as its most modern part.
The tour begins at Puerta del Sol, the very center of the city, where we will explain the evolution of the city of Vigo over the centuries. From its beginnings as a small Celtic town, it ended up becoming a fishing village and continued to develop until today, when it has become the most populous city in northwestern Spain and the main industrial engine of Galicia.
From Puerta del Sol we will take the escalators (yes, they are in the middle of the street) to go up to the castle of San Sebastián, which has spectacular views of the Vigo estuary. Next, we will descend to the historic center of the city, where the cobbled pedestrian streets tell us about the old days of Vigo. The ride ends right next to the Atlantic Ocean, at the boardwalk that features a statue of a giant octopus from a famous book.
Why is Vigo known as the Olive City? Why are the Cíes Islands so special? What is Jules Verne’s relationship with Vigo? What are those black things floating in the estuary?
If you want to know the answers to these and many other questions and curiosities about Vigo, join our free tour. At the end of the visit, you decide how much you want to pay.
